This is my first full, year-long list of all the new albums I have listened to this year! Every one of these albums came out in 2024, and they will be ordered by release date. This is my demo year, so it is a little incomplete!

THE YEAR.

JANUARY

American Dream - 21 Savage 76

Review: Since following 21 Savage beginning around his Bank Account days, I have seen his musicianship improve, and I believe this project is most likely the extent of his ability. Despite the overall rating, I enjoyed most of this album, especially songs like “letter to my bruddu” and “dark days” that take a deeper dive into real-life experiences and do not ramble more mumble rap lyrics.

Lyrical Lemonade - All Is Yellow 67

Review: This is Lyrical Lemonade’s debut album led by director Cole Bennett, who creates the best music videos in the game. He has been the best for a long time, and he attempted to bring a ton of artists together to open the door for more directors to create music. While some songs were enjoyable, some of the worst songs I have ever heard were placed on this album, so there is plenty of room for improvement.

FEBRUARY

The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy 96

Review: For a debut album, this is about the best it can get. The Last Dinner Party was unknown to just about anyone outside of London until this album was released, but I was shocked to hear such a complete project. There are obvious theatrical and rock influences for this album and band, and their label of “industry plant” during the release of their singles is probably shushed by what is a contender for album of the year.

1999 WRITE THE FUTURE - hella (˃̣̣̥╭╮˂̣̣̥) ✧ ♡ ‧º·˚ 74

Review: As a long time 88rising fan, I was very excited for this project after the release of its singles. I would not say I am disappointed, but I feel like the final product of this album could have been better with fewer songs. There are some songs that either do not fit on this album or are straight up unlistenable. On the flip side, there are some standouts in a wide range of genres that will keep me coming back. Hopefully this project continues and improves since there is a lot of potential with Rich Brian and Warren Hue leading the way.

Mk.gee - Two Star & The Dream Police 89

Review: Mk.gee described this as an attempt to create the sound most minimally AND maximally, and there is no better way to describe this album. Sonically, this is beautiful. Nothing else sounds like this dark, haunting yet pretty and cheerful music. He is a master at guitar and had visible intentions when putting together sounds that should not sound good together. We may be in the midst of the next musical genius, but we’ll have to see.
